EPISODE #99: ARE WE SETTING REALISTIC GOALS FOR OURSELVES IN OUR BUSINESS?
Throughout my experience mentoring other wedding photographers and chatting with people in the community, I’ve found that sometimes we create unrealistic goals that are just setting us up for disappointment. Goal setting is a really important aspect of growing your business and finding personal satisfaction in your career, but it’s vital that you focus on attainable goals within a realistic time frame.
In this episode, I want to talk about the importance of setting realistic goals and taking into consideration your own experience levels, photographic skills and the network around you. Thriving as a wedding photographer can takes years of marketing your brand and honing your craft both during weddings and outside of hours, so it’s important to set incremental goals that reflect this.
You should also consider what your current lifestyle can support when it comes to available time to spend shooting and marketing and the funds you have available to invest in gear and advertising. There’s no point saying you want to book X many weddings if it’s within an open-ended time frame or by a date that doesn’t take into account your previous shooting record.
If you’re just starting out in wedding photography, it’s great to have energy and belief in yourself that you will create a thriving business. But if you set unrealistic goals, you may only be destined for disappointment.
